Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo

Chicago, Illinois

Located in the heart of Chicago, this interactive exhibit provides a multi-sensory experience of the North American woods and the creatures – black bears, wolves, beavers, otters, and turtles – that call it home. Shielded by trees from the noise of the street, visitors are immersed in the world of the forest. The storybook adventure of a child’s walk through the woods weaves through the exhibits, culminating in a masonry observation pavilion. Sustainable features include a green roof seeded with wildflowers to eliminate storm-water runoff and a glass curtain veiled in grapevines, controlling harsh, western sun while allowing natural cross ventilation.
