Boudin at the Wharf

San Francisco, California

The 25,500 square-foot Boudin Bakery near Pier 39 reflects the industrial feel of San Francisco’s waterfront. EHDD worked with Engstrom Design Group (EDG) to design a thoroughly modern space for this landmark business, while preserving the historic feel of the surrounding neighborhood.

Stretching along Jefferson Street with red awnings echoing the rhythm of the street, the two-story, transparent elevation reveals the activity within and views beyond the building. The first floor features a bakery, associated retail, and a deli. The second floor includes a café, bar, exhibits, and a bakery tour. Visitors can relax at seasonal outdoor seating at the west entrance, and see a real working flour silo at the east end. Adjacent surface parking is supplemented by bicycle parking at both ends of the building.
