Chuck’s inclusive, inventive and spontaneous approach yields designs that are extremely diverse in their form and articulation, yet exceedingly well suited to their sites, their programs, and the needs of users. Chuck is a recognized expert in the design of zoos, aquariums and museums, however his diverse portfolio also includes master plans, historic renovation work, and expansions, such as the new home of The Exploratorium at Pier 15 in San Francisco.

He has that rare ability to create environments that form a harmonious union of marine science, habitat understanding, materials research, visitor experience and aquarium exhibitry. His integrative, visionary design of the Monterey Bay Aquarium transformed the field of aquarium design, earning him the prestigious Maybeck Award and the 25 Year Award from the AIA California Council.
